Speech and Language Developmental Milestones

How can you tell if your child is making speech and language developmental norms?

Feel like your child understands you but isn't speaking correctly?

Do other people have a hard time understanding your child when they speak?

The chart shows the Speech Sound Acquisition Chart by age. These are expectations for speech sounds. The left side of the bar shows when the sounds begin, whereas the end of the bar shows mastery expectation. (www.speechtherapytalk.com)

It might be time to have a Speech and Language Evaluation.

American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) (www.ASHA.org) has shared some powerful information to help you know your child's milestones.

What are Phonological Processes?

So you have heard the term "Phonological Processes" and Articulation but you don't know the difference?

Phonology is what you hear. Therefore this is a way to group sound classes we make. These are how our correct speech sounds develop. When learning a language and how all the complex movements are made we learn in groups.

Learning that K,G,T, and D are made within the mouth is a step, but learning that one is made in the front of the mouth (T,D) and the other is made in the back (K, G) is a step for learning.

For our children who don't discriminate these sounds independently and at the expected ages then it may be time to visit your Speech and Language Pathologist.
